Serving the Hispanic Community of Central Washington Since 1990

Grupo Hispanavision is a minority owned television station offering programming for the Mexican residents, of which there are 300,000 living in our market area. The Yakima – Tri-Cities DMA is the 49th largest Hispanic market in the country and both Yakima and Franklin counties are nearly 50% Hispanic. Between our broadcast signal and cable penetration we reach 99% of the population throughout the DMA.

KWYT-TV is a UHF television station licensed by the FCC to Channel 39 (Yakima) and Ch 23 (Tri-Cities) broadcasting from Ahtanum Ridge in Yakima & Jump Off Joe Butte in Kennewick covering all of Yakima, Benton, and Franklin counties in Washington with an ERP of 15,000 digital watts. Azteca America (Ch.39.1) is also carried on Charter Communications Cable Channel 17 (Yakima) & Channel 98 (Tri-Cities) and J & N Cable Channel 7 in the Upper Yakima Valley.

In the past, the Hispanic market has been inadequately served by television because of the geographic size, geological characteristic and the expense of broadcasting. Only Grupo Hispanavision has made a consistent effort to reach the Mexican audience by delivering the best in sports, news, and entertainment programming since May 1990. Cable and satellite companies have experienced difficulty attracting and keeping Hispanic subscribers because of the practical economies faced by the Hispanic people.

Azteca America (39.1) signed on in the Yakima Valley of Washington State on March 2010. The #2 rated television network in Mexico, Azteca America has programs specifically aimed at the Mexican people. Univision, Telemundo, and Galavision’s programming targets Latinos from Puerto Rico, Central and South America and Mexico. There are cultural and language differences that make our programming very attractive to Mexican Hispanics. Most Mexicans in our area have migrated here or are 2nd generation Mexicans with roots back to the Mexican state of Michoacán, where the capital city is Morelia. Azteca America owns the Morelia Monarcas of the Mexican Soccer League,(as well as 3 other teams) the principle soccer league of Mexico. For Yakima County, where 60% of the Hispanics in the DMA live, we were the home team the day we signed on the air. Besides a heavy quality sports schedule Azteca America programs news, telenovelas, movies, game & talk shows, and comedy programs.

Mexicanal (39.2) signed on in the Yakima Valley of Washington State on January 2010. Launched in 2005 by Cablecom & Castalia Communications, they recognized an opportunity to serve the Mexican population that had migrated to the United States. Signing programming affiliations with broadcasters from many different states in Mexico, Mexicanal is able to provide “Hometown News & Information” to Mexicans living thousands of miles away from home. Mexicanal serves Mexicans living and working throughout the United States. It’s lineup features a dynamic range of Spanish-language content encompassing news, culturally significant programs, sports and popular entertainment from public broadcasters, independent producers and local access television stations across Mexico.

Hispanavision (39.3) has been broadcasting Spanish language television programming in the Yakima Valley and Tri-Cities area for over 20 years (May 1990). We are by far the oldest Spanish language television broadcaster in the entire Pacific Northwest. We are also the only locally owned and operated commercial television station in the Yakima Valley. Many people remember us for our broadcasts of the Seattle Mariners baseball games and Seattle Supersonics basketball games in addition to a wide range of programming including novelas, talk shows, original sitcoms, sports, movies, and musical programs.“La Red Mexicana para la gente Hispana”
